Holiday had a Super Sunday with one of the highest single day collections of 2014 which gives the movie a solid boost.

This gives Holiday the 3rd Highest Opening weekend of 2014 as well as the 3rd Highest opening weekend ever for Akshay Kumar.

HOLIDAY - A SOLDIER IS NEVER OFF DUTY is an expensive film and the film will have to hold strong from Monday to Thursday to recover a substantial chunk of the investment from theatrical avenues.

Comparative First Weekend of 2014 ( Trade Figures):
Jai Ho: 58.07 Crore
Gunday: 40.26 Crore
Holiday: 40.23 Crore

Comparison with Akshay Kumar Opening Weekend ( Trade Figures):
Rowdy Rathore: 46 Crore
Housefull 2: 41 Crore
Holiday: 40.23 Crore

On Saturday Holiday started picking up in Multiplexes and though there was a drop in collections at single screens gain from multiplexes has covered it up.

Trend is now better for Holiday and a good boost on Sunday can give it a decent weekend. Its Weekend will be in the range of 38-40 crore

This is the 4th highest opening of 2014 behind Jai HO, Gunday and 2 States. This is also 5th Highest Opening day for Akshay Kumar.

It opened low but picked up in the evening shows

Saturday will determine the fate of the movie and if the movie picks up it should have a chance to meet its Big Budget.

Saturday trend is better than Friday.

Holiday is the second big release of the year after Jai Ho.

Trade has a great expectation of at least a 12 Crore + start at the box office for Holiday and expect movie to hit at least 40 crore + in the weekend.

Overall it has a mixed start but it can still  meet expectation of 40 crore weekend of Trade.

Earlier:
Comparative First Day of 2014:
Jai Ho: 17.14 Crore
Gunday: 15.1 Crore
2 States:  11.83 Crore
Holiday: 11.36 Crore

Comparison with Akshay Kumar Opening Days:
Rowdy Rathore: 14.05 Crore
Housefull 2: 12.9 Crore
Tees Maar Khan:  12.7 Crore
Boss: 11.7 Crore
Holiday: 11.36 Crore

Things In favour:
1.) Release Date: In recent years movies releasing on the first Friday after IPL have got great start at the box office.

Over last 3 years Big Movies releasing on the Friday after IPL is over have all been members of 100 crore club making it a highly coveted date for release

2011 Ready: 121 Crore
2012 Rowdy Rathore: 133 Crore
2013 Yeh Jawaani Hain Deewani: 186 Crore

2) Director:
Holiday is directed by A.R.Murugadoss , a man who has an impeccable record down south and who gave us Bollywood’s 1st 100 cr grosser in the form of Ghajini.

Weakness:
While single screens will support the movie Multiplex audiences have been rejecting South remakes and Masala movies Both Akshay's Boss and Salman Khan's Jai Ho struggled to woo multiplex audiences at the Box Office.

Its a Big Budget Movie and to recover its cost it needs to sustain beyond the weekend.

Buzz:
The theatrical Trailer didn't have a great impact and Music has not really catched up which means Word of Mouth and Content has a big role to play here.

Trade Figure: Means Collections found by summing up the box office collection figures provided by each cricuit distributors, exhibitors and multiplex owners.

Producer Figure: Official Figures given out by producers of the movie is usually found to be higher than trade figure. Also Try:
